Australia is one of my favorite destinations in the world. It was the first nation I visited during my backpacking journey, and it would permanently affect my life.
You better believe that part of that life-changing year featured some parties, with some of the greatest happening at music festivals around the country. Stereosonic 2010 in Melbourne is still fresh in my mind. It could be one of the finest festivals I’ve ever attended!
Australia is regarded for having not just some of the finest music, but also some of the top music festivals in the world. If you’re planning a trip to Australia, don’t miss out on these upcoming music events.
MONA FOMA
MONA FOMA, sometimes known as ‘MOFO’ by some, is an annual event held in Tasmania. Unlike other future Australian music events, this one is a little more eclectic. It is a modern event that includes not only singers and bands, but also dancers, shows, visual arts, and more. Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes founded the event, and he clearly enjoyed many types of music. This event provides something for everyone, whether you enjoy punk or classical music.
Southbound
If you want something a little more funky, the Southbound Music Festival is calling your name. This event, held on the Western Australian coastline, is much more than simply music. Throughout the weekend, there are marketplaces, food trucks, and a large number of people simply camping out and having fun. The lineup is quite fantastic, so you’ll be sure to feel wonderful while hanging out with new and old friends.
Sydney Festival
If you chance to be in Australia during the summer, be sure to visit Sydney for the Sydney Festival. Similar to MOFO, this festival caters to a wide range of interests, with hundreds of events featuring musicians from across the world. Everything from modern music to theater plays are performed here, which is more than enough to keep the 500,000 visitors that come here each year entertained.
St Jerome’s Laneway Festival
St. Jerome’s street Festival began 10 years ago in a small Melbourne street, featuring local indie acts. Since 2005, the music festival has spread to five Australian towns and other locations around the world. Get your tickets today for the music festival, which will feature both emerging local artists and well-known foreign performers.
Byron Bay Bluesfest
Bluesfest, “Australia’s Premier Blues & Roots Festival,” has been attracting festival-goers for almost three decades. The event will be held on the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm in Byron Bay, and there will be plenty of room for you and your friends to dance. There are almost 200 performances by your favorite performers, including John Mayer, John Legend & BB King, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and many more. Camp out and enjoy the cuisine, market, and beer gardens. There are even children’s amusement zones, so the whole family can enjoy the excitement.
Groovin’ The Moo
If the name of this music event doesn’t pique your interest, stop by to discover what Groovin’ The Moo is all about. Though this music festival is not as huge or well-known as others in Australia, it has grown in popularity over the last decade thanks to the presence of certain well-known artists. The event has a terrific feel, and you could wind yourself following it to each location it visits.
Splendour in the Grass
This Australian music festival began as a strategy to provide entertainment during the months when music festivals in Australia are less common; the event quickly gained popularity. It began as a one-day event, but has now expanded to three. Splendour in the Grass contains performers from a variety of genres, including alternative, rap, electronic, rock, metal, and punk. With such diversity, it’s no wonder that the festival has received several honors for its incredible lineups throughout the years.
Stereosonic
Stereosonic is the ultimate electronic music event, occurring annually in numerous Australian towns. If you enjoy house music, like me, you’ll feel completely at home at Stereosonic. Because this genre is gaining popularity in Australia and throughout the world, it’s no wonder that Stereosonic attracts an increasing number of visitors each year. It’s an unforgettable event with an amazing lineup that includes both local and international artists.
Falls Festival
Every year, the Falls Music & Arts Festival takes place over several days of New Year’s. The music festival is hosted in numerous cities, while it was once only held in Lorne and lasted only one day. The festival has released its outstanding lineup for this year, which includes acts you know and love such as Bloc Party, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Foals, Disclosure, Gary Clark Jr. You don’t have any conflicting New Year’s Eve plans this year, right? Of course, not!
